New York Culture

New York City has become the cultural icon of the world due to centuries of immigration of all ethnic backgrounds looking for a new beginning.  It has been shaped by the different cultures that have established their own subcultures within the city.  New York is a place to discover the rest of the world within one place, and better understand the richness and diversity of the people.  With so much diversity, the city has learned things like tolerance and that difference is good.  As you walk the streets, it is as if you go from one country to another, each ethnicity celebrating its own cultural art, music and food.

The city leaders work hard at keeping the cultural vibrancy alive through the city’s Department of Cultural Affairs also known as DCLA.  The DCLA promotes adequate funding for non-profit organizations in an attempt to keep all cultural arts alive within the city.  Their efforts are a big part of strengthening the economic growth of New York City.

One of the greatest cultural backgrounds of New York City is its many diverse religions and churches.  New York is home to many religions that embrace the differences such as the St. Bartholomew’s Church who in its mission states they are “a welcoming, vibrant, diverse community of faith”.  The beautiful building, with its tiled dome, is a must see when visiting the city.  New York has many subcultures made up of not only different ethnicities but also people with different economic standing, professions, and the famous. New York City is a place where the world comes together.
