The New York Jets is one of the many teams that call New York home, however they don’t always draw as much attention as some other professional teams from New York. Originally starting out in the often thought second class league of the AFL, the New York Jets have proved that they belong in the NFL. They have endured many hard times, but have also enjoyed some successful years as well.
The New York Jets are a professional football team in the NFL, as a member of the eastern division in the AFC. The Jets play their home games at Giants Stadium, sharing home field with the other professional football team from New York, the New York Giants. The most memorable moment in the history of the franchise is the championship won in 1969. Being called a stepchild from the AFC, and coming in as a huge underdog, the Jets went on to upset the favored Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III. Joe Namath guaranteed a win, and backed up his prediction on the field. The team has not experienced much success since the championship year, only reaching the AFC title game one time since then.
In 2006 the New York Jets hired New England Patriots Assistant Coach Eric Mangini, trying to bring in someone who was used to winning. His first year on the job was a success, as he returned the team to the playoffs, however the team took a step back the next year going 4-12. They are hoping Coach Mangini can be the one to take the team back to the top and help put an end to many disappointing seasons.
