Finishing Woodwork

There are so many finishes that can be applied to raw wood, but you have to be careful with which finish you choose. Some finishes may actually damage your wood.

There are many finishes such as shellac, lacquer or varnish. Then you also have the very penetrating varnish oils. Shellac is very shiny and glossy and after a while it changes color. It turns into an amber color. It can also create water stains. You can use Lacquer it is sprayed on, which is easier to apply. It dries fast but, what happens with Lacquer is that it creates a very hard surface and can become flammable. Varnishes are very durable, but there is too much time involved to apply varnishes such as traditional and Polyurethane.

Then of course you have your oil finish. This can be very easy to apply, it dries very fast and over time it will always look as beautiful as the first day you applied it.
