Major City or just a Borough?

Brooklyn began as the Dutch-founded town of “Breuckelen,” dating back to the Seventeenth Century. In 1898 Brooklyn was the annexed as the first of five boroughs creating the Greater New York City Area. Since the beginning of the formation of America, Brooklyn has made its claim in History.

256 American Troops died at Stone House in 1776 during the revolutionary war. Stone House also served as the clubhouse for the Brooklyn Dodgers. The first fenced in Baseball Park was Union Grounds on Lee and Marcy Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The park was established in 1862. In 1947, Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier as he began his professional Baseball career with the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Brooklyn is a city of many ethnic groups including African Americans, Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, Italians, Germans and Jews. There is a thriving community of artist that dwell in the boroughs of Brooklyn. The Brooklyn Museum pays respects to a lot of the artist of the area. Brooklyn was one of the first cities to undergo urbanization.

Brooklyn has a lot of history running through its veins. Brooklyn established itself as a strong eastern city early on but many old time Brooklyn residents were displeased with the city becoming a borough of New York. Many believed Brooklyn could have become one of the most prosperous cities of the East Coast.
