Art can come in any form. As long as someone is inspired by it or thinks it’s beautiful, it can be considered “art.” The Museum of Modern Art in New York City is devoted solely to modern art. This ranges from the traditional mediums of drawing, painting, sculpture and prints to the non-traditional forms of art including films, photography, literature and gardening.
Founded in 1929, The Museum of Modern Art was initially intended to educate the public about modern and contemporary art. This still continues today with programs to teach and inspire all age groups and skill levels. There are classes offered and events scheduled for preschoolers and their parents, grade school age children and younger teens. The museum also has programs for high school students, internships, volunteers, instruction for teachers and family activities.
While the museum has an outstanding permanent collection, it also has space for touring exhibits. Many of these stay on display from three months to twelve months and are enjoyed by thousands of people in that time. Recently added on to the museum’s 630,000 square foot layout are rooms designed for lectures, classes, research, film screenings, a cafe and, of course, exhibit display.
The Museum of Modern Art is one of the most famous and influential museums in the world. While many may not appreciate modern or contemporary art and ideals, they can’t help but be impressed with the amount of work and skill it takes for the pieces to be created. This is true of everything from the traditional to the avant-garde, all of which are contained in the Museum of Modern Art.
