Bergdorf Goodman’s is a department store in New York City. Herman Bergdorf and Edwin Goodman started the company in 1899. Neiman Marcus owns this posh department store that caters to the sophisticated and generally conservative shoppers. The Bergdorf Goodman store is very organized and uncluttered.
Bergdorf Goodman is made up of two different stores. In 1990 the men’s store was moved across the street so that the main store would have more space for women’s fashion. In 1997 the John Barrett Salon and Susan Ciminelli Day Spa opened in the ninth floor penthouse apartment. The Beauty Level opened in 1999 and has the Goodman’s Café, which only serves lunch and afternoon tea and a luxury spa.
In 2002 the main floor of the women’s store was renovated. Bergdorf Goodman sells clothing, handbags, shoes, bedding, very fine jewelry, furniture, house wares and beauty products. There is also a fur salon, a leather-and-wood modern handbag area, gifts and antiques, a bridal shop, the Goodman’s café (located in the women’s store) and Café 745 (located in the men’s store).
Bergdorf Goodman hosts a number of luxury designers such as Chanel, Giorgio Armani, Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent. The store developed the Bergdorf Goodman Number Nine perfume and a ready-to-wear clothing line for children called Miss Bergdorf.
If your budget will not allow you the opportunity to buy from Bergdorf Goodman’s, wait until the end of the season when they have great sales. If you still are unable to buy there is always window-shopping.
