The Lincoln Center in New York City

The Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts began in the 1960s as an Urban Renewal Project under John D. Rockefeller III. It has been improved over the years and is currently the largest performing arts center in the world. Hosting approximately five million visitors per year, it has been responsible for transforming the Upper West Side of New York into an exciting and thriving neighborhood that provides artistic excellence in New York City. The Performing Arts Center is comprised of 12 separate organizations in New York, which include the Music Society of Lincoln Center, Film Society of Lincoln Center, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Julliard School, Lincoln Center Theater, Metropolitan Opera, New York City Ballet, New York City Opera, New York Philharmonic, New York Public Library of the Performing Arts, School of American Ballet, and the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Inc. These organizations are a part of the complex of buildings that comprise the Lincoln Center. This group of performing arts present thousands of musical, educational, and historical programs each year.
