The History Of The New York Times Newspaper

The New York Times is an American newspaper that was founded in 1851 and published in New York City. It is the largest metropolitan newspaper in the United States. The New York Times Company also publishes 18 other newspapers, including the International Herald Tribune, and The Boston Globe.

 

The paper’s motto’s is printed in the upper left-hand corner of the front page. All of the News fits to print. It is organized into sections: News, Opinions, Business, Arts, Science, Sports, Style, and Features. The New York Times was one the only newspaper that stayed with the eight columns while other newspapers switched to six columns, and it was also one of the last newspapers that switched to color photography. It has won 101 Pulitzer Prizes which is an award for achievements in newspaper journalism literature and musical composition. It has won more than any other newspaper ever. The website is also the most popular online newspaper as of December, 2008. It receives over 18 million visitors a month.


The New York Times was founded on September 18, 1851 by a journalist Henry Jarvis Raymond as the New York Daily Times. It was sold for one cent per copy. The paper changed its name to The New York Time in 1857. The paper was originally published everyday but Sunday, but on April 21, 1861.due to the demand for daily coverage of the Civil War the Times, along with other major papers, started to publish papers on Sundays. The Times has had a strong presence on the Web since 1995, and has been ranked one of the top Websites.
