Flushing Meadows Park In Corona, Queens

Flushing Meadows was once a swamp, and an ash dump, but now it is a very well known park in Queens, and a great place to bike, run, or even relax. Flushing Meadows Corona Park is between Flushing and Corona, New York. This 1,255 acre park has historical, recreational and environment significance.  This former dumping ground was called “valley of ashes”. This has become Queens’s largest park, and one of New York City’s flagship parks. This park is surrounded by athletic fields, bike paths, and picnic areas.

The Queens Zoo is dedicated to protecting and breeding endangered species, and it focuses on North American animals. The North American animals are exhibited on naturalistic grounds which allow a very intimate closeness between the visitors and the animals. The small loop circuit of the zoo can be completed in less than an hour. Then there is also the Children’s Farm which has exhibitions of domestic animals.

If you do end up making the trip all the way out to Corona Park, Queens to visit the zoo, you also might be interested in experiencing some other attractions in the area. There is also a 93 acre man made Meadow Lake it is New York City’s largest lake. This is a great place for boating, fishing, and sailing.

There is the interactive New York Hall of Science which is located right next door. Then there’s the Queens Museum of Art, the Queens Botanical Garden, the Unisphere, World’s Fair towers, an ice skating rink, and a playground for all children.
